Breaking the Mold: A Business Card Design Embodying "Shuhari"
This project involved designing a business card for NARUMI BASYO  teacher , an educator with a unique and progressive approach to teaching. Our discussions revealed a deep passion for fostering creativity and independent thinking in students, echoing the Japanese concept of "Shuhari."

Shuhari describes the stages of learning mastery:
Shu (守): Following the teacher's guidance.
Ha (破): Breaking away and exploring new possibilities.
Ri (離): Transcending limitations and establishing a unique style.

Basho Sensei's teaching philosophy resonated with the "Ha" stage, encouraging students to challenge conventional thinking and forge their own paths. This concept became the foundation for the business card design.

Design Elements:

The Frame: A bold frame in the center represents the traditional framework of "teaching." This frame is intentionally left blank (white) to symbolize breaking free from those constraints, visually embodying the "Ha" stage.

Color and Texture: The frame is surrounded by vibrant colors, signifying the freedom, excitement, and endless possibilities that emerge when breaking the mold. The use of Star Dream paper adds a subtle shimmer, further enhancing the sense of wonder and possibility.

Typography and Foil: The text "Breaking Down the Concept of 'Teaching'" is placed near the logo, reinforcing the central theme. Silver holographic foil stamping adds a touch of sophistication and reflects the dynamic, ever-changing nature of education.

The "Ha" of the Physical Card:
Initially, we explored a unique die-cut design where the central frame could be detached, creating two separate cards: one for professional use and another for personal use. This physical "breaking" of the card perfectly symbolized the "Ha" stage, but was ultimately impractical due to the small size of the resulting personal card. However, the core design remains, serving as a constant reminder of the concept of breaking boundaries.
This business card is more than just a contact tool; it's a statement about Basho Sensei's educational philosophy. It's a conversation starter, inviting curiosity and reflecting a commitment to innovation in education.
Thanks!
